Wordsplease is a website for gifted and talented children using the English Language to inspire 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 year olds. Children will learn about grammar (nouns, adjectives, verbs, similes, metaphors, alliteration, sentence structure, clauses), the history of spelling, reading modern and classic fiction and poetry (war poetry, limericks, text poems, tongue twisters) and many writing forms (newspapers, magazines, stories, character descriptions, scene setting, drama, formal and informal letter writing, persuasive writing, arguments). They will also learn about problem solving, codes, and crytic clues as well as creating educational language games. It is suitable for use by children who attend state school, private school, public school or children who are home educated. Wordsplease is designed to supplement and enhance previous learning through independent reading and writing projects. Simply type in the name of an author or book you have read recently and other, similar books will be recommended. Good for encouraging reading.
If you have children who need to practise their times tables, even though their English work may be very good, you can always turn to times tables, the website giving not only the fastest method of learning tables, but also a lot of practice in using them for solving all sorts of problems. Don't forget that times tables are used in fraction work, multiplication of all sorts, decimals, percentages, angle work and algebra, as well as a whole host of other topics. A good facility now will enable faster mathematical learning leading up to GCSE and other work.. And if you have older children and need practice for either the Foundation Level or the Higher level work, go to gcse maths, where you will find a lot of GCSE type questions to practise with - the only real and efficient way to improve competence. |
